R.I.P. X360 :(

Count my Xbox 360 as another casualty of teh 3RL, after 2 minutes of rocking out to "Carry On Wayward Son" on Guitar Hero 2 the console crashed. Turning it on again didn't even get me past the welcome screen. Not good. As I sweated profusely, silently dreading the possibility that my X360 was dying, I gave it another go. And there it was, blinking at me, shades of the frigid bastard HAL 9000, three red lights. F#%K..
I used to be one of those guys who thought the reliability issues of the Xbox 360 were overblown. Surely these were just the unlucky few being extremely vocal about the issue, and there was no way I was going to believe that the failure rate was as high as 30% for the console, that's just insane. I was unlucky sure, but I wasn't THAT unlucky. Now this happens, and not only am I wrong, I'm going to miss out on some of my most anticipated games this year. And by miss I mean I won't get it to play it anywhere near launch, yeah yeah, so I'm a little impatient.
No Bioshock and no Halo 3. No GH2 and finishing Hard either (soo close, just the last tier left, with 3 songs in my way). On top of this I have to contend with figuring out how to get my console back to Microsoft so they can send me a new one. At the moment I've registered my 360 on http://service.xbox.com, and they've emailed me to say that I need to call them so we can arrange everything. Cool, except I can't since my voice is shot because of the cough i got from the crazy rain and flooding. DAMMIT..
Sigh, at least there's still the Wii, and hey, provided I figure out this thing with Microsoft I get a new X360 that will be a lot less prone to choking on me (and yey for the HDMI port).4-6 weeks ain't so bad right (yeah, I'll keep telling myself that)? I'll just have to trudge through this customer support process and hope for the best, with my luck I should get a new one in about, hmm, 3 months.

My sincerest condolences for your loss. :(

I feel your pain bro. My second 360 just got the RoD on Sunday, two days before Halo 3's release. I'm sitting here at work, no longer filled with the anticipation which I should have been, for when 5:00 comes, I'm still going to pick up my pre-ordered copy of Halo 3, but I'll just have to make due with appreciating the box art until I get my warranty exchange done.
Condolences!

Mine died last week but I just received it back a couple of hours ago. However, in the meantime I went out and bought an Elite as there was no way I could go for '20 working days' (even though it was drastically less than that) without gaming. Anyway, I feel your pain. Unfortunately all Xbox 360 consoles are ticking time bombs. Glad we got the extended warranty.

Unfortunately you don't get a new Xbox 360 when they send you it back (if that's what you mean). It's simply the same console with a replacement of whatever it was that failed. For me it was the motherboard so I got my same ol' Premium back with a new motherboard.

Guys,
Thanks for your condolences :). Thankfully it's been raised back from the dead, at least temporarily.
Ashley,
Thanks for the heads up, I suppose expecting a new console as a replacement was too much to expect.
Unfortunately I've given up on MS's support, Apart from confirming that they've got my email I haven't heard much from them. And after reading up on it I've come to the conclusion that I'm not going to get my 360 replaced since they have not "launched" the console here in the Philippines.
So I had to settle for having the console patched up from the store where I got it from. I'm guessing they resoldered the GPU's heatsync (I doubt they reballed it). Now my 360's on life support, it could go at anytime but I'm really hoping it'll last at least until MS drops the price a bit. Hey at least I can finally do some Bioshock and maybe some Halo 3 co-op :D.

Really? So the 360 hasn't been launched in the Philippines? Are they planning on launching it there? Sorry for all the questions. I didn't realise it hadn't been launched there.
At least the store is patching it up and you're not lumbered with a broken 360. Well good luck with it all! Definitely get stuck into Bioshock when you get your 360 back. I'm now trying to find a buyer for my Premium but no one seems too interested :s

They never launched it here, most of the consoles here were imported from Singapore or Hong Kong and sold by retailers. It's kinda sad really since there's quite a community behind the 360 and the least they could do is extend the warranty to us and allowing us to send the units to their Singapore service center. Instead they flat out refuse to give us support, thanks MS! Screw you too!
But yeah, I can get back to gaming, at least until it RRoD's on me again (typically these repairs only last 4-6 months :( ). I've been dying for more of the city of Rapture after I played the demo, so that'll be the first game I get.
